This past Friday night saw three fighters from the Sitsongpeenong Phuket fight team take to the ever exciting fight stage on MXMuayXtreme.
You must be living under a rock if you haven’t watched a fight on MX. It’s the new kid on the block on the MuayThai circuit here in Bangkok.
MX is making waves locally and internationally, TV ratings are through the roof and fighters, both Thai and foreign are clambering to get an opportunity to fight on the weekly event.
Sitsongpeenong Phuket supplies a multitude of their island based fighters for the show — and as already mentioned three of the boys had wars this past Friday night.
Two wins and one loss (but a loss is not a loss in MuayThai, it’s a learning curve).
First up from the Sitsongpeenong fight team was Norwegian fighter Marcus Kalberg who faced off against Thailand’s Konkom Sor Kaewsuk; a fighter who is based out of Bangkok’s Elite Fight Club.
This bout was set at 57kgs and this fight had it all: bravery, grit, tenacity, mayhem, blood and lots punishment from both boys.
It was a typical Mx Muay war that makes fight fans fall in love with the Friday night fun at the GMM studios in central Bangkok.
The man from Stavanger in Norway epitomized what it feels like to want the victory more than your opponent, when in the third round he landed some brutal combinations which enabled his hand to be raised in victory, a win which was earned over three hard fought rounds
Next up was Poland’s Patryk Beszta who went up against Thailand’s Apidet Lookjaoporsornchai in a battle set at 71kg.
Patryk wanted to make a big statement on MX after his last outing in the ring ended in defeat at the hands of Pascal Scroth on the Top King World Series.
The man from Bialystok did just that (make a huge statement) and did it in emphatic fashion when he sent Apidet crashing to the canvas, to the point of no return from a thunderous body-shot punch in the midst of the opening stanza.
Last but certainly not least Halil Iprahim stood tall and proud against Simanoot Sor Sarinya on the night’s main event.
This fight was a quarter final bout in the MX Champion eight man tournament; an event Halil was not meant to be involved in at all!
Simanoot’s original opponent, Christian Pastore from Argentina pulled out of the fight three days before and when asked by his gym boss (Tim Fisher) Halil positively accepted the challenge on two days notice.
After three rounds of constant back and forth action, Halil came up just a little short of gaining the victory against the steely veteran. No shame in loosing, only learning!
Markus and Halil both picked up the coveted bonus for ‘fight of the night’ alongside their respective opponents — not a bad night’s work done by the ever expanding Sitsongpeenong Phuket fight team.
