Name: Magnus Andersson
Age: 23 years old
Country: Sweden
Gym: Sitsongpeenong Phuket
Fight record: 35-9-0 (10 KO’s)

SFN: How long have you been involved in MuayThai and what attracted you to the sport?

Magnus: I’ve been training MuayThai for eight years, since I was fifteen. I started out with a couple of friends I Sweden and we did it just for fun. After my first fight I knew that Muay Thai was the sport for me. I love putting myself on the line in battle and train very hard to improve every fight.

SFN: What made you decide to make the move to live and fight in Thailand on a permanent basis?

MAGNUS: I had been in Thailand for 5 months and loved the training the food at Thai culture. I planned to change camps have one more fight and return to Sweden. Changing camps to Sitsongpeenong was the turning point for me.

The training was a bit tougher because of the intensity and the boss was always on my case pushing me to improve. The level of the trainers and the attention they gave me made me more motivated. I started to believe more in my potential and that there was some great opportunities for me fighting on shows like MXMuayXtreme and Topking World Series.

Then I decided I wanted to base myself at Sitsongpeenong in Phuket and pursue my career as a professional athlete.

My level improved rapidly as did the level of my opponents. As my confidence and skills grew I beat a couple big names and lost to a couple as well. I tried to improve every fight matter the result. Now after beating two former Lumpinee champions I find myself in the final of MxMuayXtreme 70kg tournament final.

SFN: How have the champion trainers at Sitsongpeenong helped improve you as a fighter?

MAGNUS: I am lucky to be doing pads with Sayannoi he was a huge super star in Thailand before and a multi-time Lumpinee champion. He has helped me develop my skills, quite considerably. He changes how he holds pads for each new opponent I have. Sayannoi had victories over bigs punchers of the golden era in their prime.
He beat Bovy, Pornsanae and Anuwat — all heavy punchers and he is excellent at combating fighters of that style and hopefully his experience will help me on Friday.

Yodvisanu has also influenced me to a develop a more professional and stable fighting style. Yodvisanu was also a champion fighter and Kaew, Yodsanklai Attachai were his teammates. He’s improved my clinching and his experience training Japanese k1 Champion Masaaki Nori has also helped with the style needed to win at Mx.

SFN: Is there anything else you would like to add?

MAGNUS:I want to thank the team of trainers at Sitsongpeenong and the other fighters for pushing me hard in training and the other members of the gym and local people in Phuket for their support. I also want to thank the owner Tim Fisher and his family for believing in me and to my own family and trainers at home in Sweden for helping me pursue my dreams.

SFN: Thanks for your time Magnus and best of luck in Friday night’s MX champion tournament final against Magomed.

MAGNUS: Thank you.
